I love a crunchy coleslaw as an alternative to a lettuce salad and it makes a great accompaniment to a good South African Braai but it is often so high in fat that it isn’t very healthy. This is my alternative no mayo option that I think is just as tasty. Enjoy.
No Mayo Coleslaw
This delicious side goes with any Traditional South African braai or a meal needing a different but delicious salad.

Ingredients
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- 1 TBSP sugar
- 2 TBSP sesame seed oil OR avocado oil (any flavour)
- 300g Shredded cabbage
- 2 large grated carrots
- 3 TBSP raisons/cranberries
- ½ tsp salt
- Pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds (1 TBSP)
- Rocket Leaves (optional garnishing)
Method
- Mix vinegar and sugar together.
- Add oil and then spoon dressing over cabbage, carrots and raisons/cranberries and toss to combine.
- Add pepper to taste.
- Stand for 20 minutes then re-toss and serve.
- Sprinkle on sesame seeds before serving.
- Garnish with some rocket to add colour.
